TimePilot Tips

TimePilot and
Windows 7

Q. I’m planning to buy a new computer with Windows 7. Will TimePilot software run on it?

A. If your new computer will be running the 64-bit version of Windows 7 (most new PCs are sold with this version installed), you'll need to use the latest version of the TimePilot software, TimePilot IV. TimePilot IV has shipped with TimePilot systems purchased since September 2010 and will run on all versions of Windows 7, Windows Vista and Windows XP (with Service Pack 2 and above), as well as Windows 2000.

(For a full description of TimePilot IV, see the article at right.)

If you're running the 32-bit version of Windows 7 or Windows Vista, or Windows XP (with Service Pack 2) or Windows 2000, the earlier version of the TimePilot software, Version 2.92, will run just fine. We've made substantial improvements and changes to TimePilot IV, so you might consider upgrading to it anyway.

Here’s how to find out what version of TimePilot software you’re running:

  1. Start TimePilot Central (if you're using TimePilot IV) or Transaction Manager (if you're using an earlier version of the TimePilot software).
  2. Click the Help menu at the top of the screen.
  3. In the drop-down menu that appears, click "About."
  4. Your version number will appear.

And here’s how to find out whether you’re running a 32- or a 64-bit version of Windows:

For users of Windows Vista or Windows 7:

  1. Click the Start button on your desktop.
  2. Open the Control Panel.
  3. Click "System."
  4. The "View Basic Information About Your Computer" window will open. The last item in the category headlined "System," will tell you whether you have a 64-bit or a 32-bit operating system.
For users of Windows XP:
  1. Click the Start button on your desktop.
  2. Open the Control Panel.
  3. Click "System."
  4. The System Properties window will open. This screen gives information about your computer. If you're running a 64-bit version of Windows XP, that fact will appear on the screen. If you're running a 32-bit version, that fact may or may not appear. In other words, you're running a 32-bit version unless Windows tells you specifically that you're running a 64-bit version.

Welcome!

TimePilot newsletter No. 2

Whether you're a current or future TimePilot customer, we're glad to see you.

Every month we'll offer news about TimePilot products, tips on how to use them more efficiently, some of the "cool stuff" our employees have come across and a special deal available only to those who receive this newsletter!

TimePilot IV: The software
of the future

We’ve always aimed to make TimePilot software easy to use, but the new TimePilot IV software is the easiest-to-use software we’ve ever created.

TimePilot IV has been shipping with TimePilot Vetro, TimePilot Extreme and TimePilot PC since September, 2010, and it’s also available as an upgrade for most TimePilot products purchased before that date. It’s the only version of TimePilot software that will run on Microsoft’s new Windows 7 operating system.

One of the things that our customers told us was that instead of using Configuration Manager to set up the system and Transaction Manager to work with clock-in and clock-out data, they wanted everything in one place.

We listened. With TimePilot IV, you can add, delete and edit employees right on the same screen where you view your employees’ clock-ins and clock-outs. You can also attach notes to any clock-in or clock-out and keep track of jury duty, bereavement and paid absences.

Among the other improvements over the old software:

  • Customize the TimePilot Central screen to show only the data you want (dozens of possibilities!).
  • Three levels of overtime.
  • More flexible handling of breaks.
  • TimePilot PC users will see a newly designed timeclock on their screen.
  • In TimePilot PC, supervisors can set the system to enable employees to view—but not change—their clock-ins and clock-outs during the pay period.

Besides shipping with current TimePilot timeclocks, the TimePilot IV software is also available as an upgrade for timeclock systems made by TimePilot since 2006.

The upgrade comes with a conversion utility that will allow you to copy your current TimePilot software setup right into TimePilot IV. Also, because TimePilot IV is entirely new software, it won't disturb your current TimePilot installation.

We have two special offers for current TimePilot customers:

  • Order your TimePilot IV Upgrade now for just $99 (that's a savings of $20!)
  • Order your TimePilot IV Upgrade and renew your Annual Technical Support Agreement for $169 (total savings of $79!).

TimePilot Central (above) is the heart of the software.

Every once in a while, our employees come across “cool stuff.” This is where they share their finds.

Pretty much everyone here at TimePilot is a pet owner. One of our employees has a very finicky (and, he hastens to add, intelligent and good-looking) cat. The cat needs to take medication twice a day, but refuses to accept pills or liquids, no matter how well they’re hidden in food or treats.

After trying everything else, the owner’s vet prescribed the medicine in a “Twist-a-Dose” applicator. The medicine is “painted” into the inside of the cat’s ear with a device that looks like a felt-tip pen. Two twists of the pen dispense just the right dose.

It’s been a lifesaver. The cat doesn’t fight the medicine; she just curls up and tolerates the momentary “ear rub.” The “Twist-a-Dose” applicator can also be used on dogs and other household pets and with a variety of medicines. Check with your veterinarian for more information.
